Develop Healthier Habits at Work

In order to maintain good health, we all need to make it a habit. Our healthy decisions can be put on autopilot once we turn health into a habit, which means that we won’t really think about them anymore. And exactly that can make improvement so much easier!

When it comes to your working schedule, you can also harness the power of healthy habits because it will make it easier for you to function at your workplace and make important decisions. Engaging in a good wellness program can actually make you less stressed. There are various things you can do to put healthy behavior on autopilot by committing them to habit.

Set Smaller Goals

You can easily get overwhelmed if you start with a humongous goal. Progressive, smaller goals are easier to accomplish and make the bigger picture seem within reach. Accomplishing small goals sets you up for many small celebrations along your way towards making your work habits healthier.

Learn to Use Triggers

If you put your bodybuilding clothes and workout gear near your bed, it’s the first thing you’ll see when you get up. Seeing it will basically trigger your mind to go and work out before work, as soon as you wake up. A trigger can be anything that automatically motivates or leads you to do something.


With good preparation, you ensure that whatever you do will go smoothly. So, be sure you have all of the supplies and equipment required for making healthy choices. For example, you’ll manage to avoid unhealthy food choices while hungrily driving home from work if you leave some leftover dinner in the oven for today’s lunch.


Every person has their own vision of a health journey. When you find out what are the things that matter to you, priorities are there to help you focus on them. Always keep the reasons for turning your lifestyle healthier within reach, and remember them as you make different healthy choices, no matter how big or small they might be.

Identify and Break Harmful Patterns

If you want to develop healthier habits, it means that there were harmful behavior patterns that made you leap for them in the first place. These are the habits that sabotage your health, so you need to identify and point them out in order to be able to overcome them. Shine a light on them so as to know what you’re fighting against.

Don’t Forget to Sleep

By this we mean that you should get enough quality sleep. You’ll know that your sleep cycles are bad if you keep waking up feeling tired. If you suffer from a sore neck or back, or wake up multiple times at night, making some changes is necessary. For a productive day, good sleep is crucial. Give yourself an 8-hour rest each night in a dark room, because only in complete darkness do our brains produce the sleep-inducing hormone, melatonin. You’ll wake up at 6:30AM fresh and well rested, ready to go and get things done.


Exercise creatively and regularly. Take some yoga classes or hit the gym. Yoga is great if you often have to work late. It improves your body’s flexibility, which is important if your work requires you to sit for longer periods of time. Just get up and stretch your legs for five minutes, it will surely do you good, and you can also try wall sits, chair squats, and toe taps.

In the end, celebrate your good decisions, because it will reinforce them. Reinforcing your new healthy habits is important, because your mind and body like to be rewarded. It will get you to want to make even more healthy lifestyle choices.
